I had my consultation at Darlington and surgery at Newcastle with Mr Lorrimer Esselaar on Fri 12th June. I've worn glasses/contact lenses for 30yrs+ and it took me several years to pick up the courage to go and I could not believe how simple and painless it actually was. I was given various treatment options that would be suitable. My work involves looking at computer screens all day so I decided not to go for the basic Lasik treatment as there was better success results and recovery times with the Wavefront and Intralase treatments included - I would be lost without my eyes. I was in the clinic approx 2hrs - all staff were very helpful and put you at ease. The surgery itself lasted no more than 10mins and was totally painless. Every step was explained clearly to me before and during the surgery. After the anaesthetic drops wore off I had slight pain (like peeling onions) and my eyes were very watery but after sleeping for a couple of hours, I could see almost perfectly without glasses. The more I slept, the better they got. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and like everyone else wish I had done it sooner. Special thanks to Mr Esselaar and everyone involved in my surgery and the consultation prior to surgery.

I have just had my consultation ay Optical Express Brighton & I am seriously considering having surgery at the Bluewater Clinic. I am suitable for for the basic Lasik procedure with the manual flap cut!! as my prescription is -1.5 & -2. Could anyone tell me if they have been to the Bluewater clinic & if they have had the basic surgery with the manual flap cut. I keep putting myself off by reading horror stories on the net!! I really want it done am but worried about the recovery time also!! Any info good or bad would be much appreciated Many Thanks x

I have a spinal injury and use a wheelchair. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and accommodating, but the equipment was not disabled friendly at all. It was not an easy process doing the numerous tests and scans. Although the technology itself is amazing, I wish I'd thought more carefully about it before having it done. I've only ever heard great things about it, so it never occurred to me, nor was I told, that by correcting my short sightedness, my near vision would worsen. It has only been two weeks since my surgery and I'm only 30, so I am told it should improve. My mum has postponed her surgery as her near vision will definitely be compromised because of her age and seeing how I am struggling with it, she is not sure whether it is worth it. After I had the surgery, within 20 minutes the anaesthetic had worn off and the pain was excruciating for about 5 hours, although my eyes were fine after that. On a positive note, my long vision is fantastic and worth every penny. My one recommendation is to not rush into it without giving it plenty of thought.

You only get one set of eyes so I was a bit nervous of what was about to happen. I had no need to worry and now have better than 20/20 sight. My prescription used to be -8.75 and -7.5. I had LASIK treatment on Friday 5th June 09 in Aberdeen with surgeon Susanna Boytha. Two days on and I have 20:20 vision. The staff at Optical Express were great, before, during and after the procedure. On the morning of my op, I arrived at 9am and was seen immediately for a re-check of the wavefront measurements of my eyes. After that I waited for about 45 minutes before an initial meeting with the surgeon, followed by preparation and treatment. The treatment was disconcerting but not at all painful. Anaesthetic drops were inserted in both eyes (they sting a little). A clamp of some sort is placed over each eye prior to the Intralase procedure - this was briefly painful, probably the most uncomfortable part of the process. Intralase itself was totally painless. I could see vague specks of red light and felt a lifting sensation as the flap was completed. I felt the surgeon lift each flap (feels strange but not painful). During the wavefront laser treatment (the second stage), I could hear rapid clicks and saw red fringes on the edge of my vision. Again, no pain at all. The flap was smoothed back into place - again, an odd feeling but not painful - and that was it. Fifteen minutes waiting for the surgeon to do a final check then I was free to go. The level of care and clear explanations throughout made it a very smooth process. Slight grittiness in the eyes as the anaesthetic wore off, but nothing particularly painful. I slept when I went home; slept again a couple of times during the day; by the next morning my vision was 20:20. Would I recommend the treatment ? I've worn specs and contact lenses pretty much continuously since I was six years' old. I now have excellent vision after a very short, painless procedure that cost about the same as 10 years' worth of glasses and contacts. So yes, I would highly recommend it. I just wish I'd done it sooner.

Bilateral Intralase Lasik in Bristol 02/06/09. Prescription was -3.75/-4. 24 Hrs later and I am now better than 20/20. Could not be happier. Surgeon was brilliant and things could not have gone better. Wish I had it done earlier...

I had my eyes done in may 2009 with intraLasik, at liverpool one. All the staf are very helpfull and put you at ease, the procedure only takes about 10 min from start to finish. I had some discomfort for the first day very watery eyes, but if you follow the the staffs advice, and go stright home and sleep, you will be fine the next day as was I. My vision is now greatly improved and i am glasses and contacts free. If you are concerned about having this done DONT BE just go for it.
