With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
4. The Verdict
I can highly recommend Optical Express. They are very professional, and the procedure was pain free. The best thing now is I can see very well without glasses – and it was only done 3 weeks ago. – Elaine Gibson

Had the treatment 6 days ago fro a -6.5 with -3 astigmatism in both eyes. The pre op care and the surgery all was very good, courteous and professional. At present I am extremely disappointed with the results and am wishing that I never went ahead with it. I was expecting a vast improvement when I got the contact lenses removed 2 days ago. However my vision is blurred and I am seeing all the characters on my keyboard in double. The computer screen is impossible to read.. And driving is not possible, my vision is nowhere near this standard. I cannot go to work as I need good vision and use computers all day. I was led to believe I would see a vast improvement when the lenses were taken out and according to the info I was given and what the consultant said I would have vision as god as my glasses. At the present rate that my vision is stabilising I just don't see how this is going to happen. I was expecting an increase in my quality of life and waving goodbye to glasses and contact lenses...huh. At present I feel I my just be waving goodbye to my job. My employer doesn't have the luxury of waiting for months until my vision to improve.

I recently had a consultation in the Kirkcaldy branch where I was seen by my counsellor who explained what was going to happen and introduced me to the optometrist who carried out the consultation. The drops were the worst part as it was very sunny outside and i had forgotten to bring my sunglasses! Everyone was very friendly and professional. (even got a nice cup of tea! ) Surgery was straight forward and again everyone was very friendly and re-assuring. I was a bag of nerves but the surgeon was very professional and explained everything as we went along wich helped my nerves. I would recomend Optical Express to everyone!

I had my treatment in December 2008 at Liverpool One by Mr Qazi. The surgeon is amazing, very reassuring, and all the staff in the laser room were lovely. After I had had it done, I went home and went to sleep. I had slight discomfort for a couple of days until the bandage contact lenses were taken out. Now I have better than 20/20 vision!!!! The thing I have noticed most about having my eyes done is walking around in the rain - I can normally be seen with a big grin on my face when it is raining now, as I no longer need windscreen wipers on my glasses anymore!!!!!! Thanks Optical Express!!

I had my surgery last Friday at the Harley Street branch by Jonathan Carr who talked me through the whole thing before and during I was very impressed with the staff and their attention to detail. Both the surgeon and the back-up staff made me feel at ease and answered all my questions on the day. I had relatively little pain or discomfort (take your own pain killers as soon as you go to the after-care room) and after getting home and going to sleep for a few hours I woke up with the streaming gone and pretty much perfect vision. This was confirmed the next day at the 1-day check-up with better than 20/20 vision. By Day 2 I had no discomfort at all and am taking my drops as directed. My consultation and check-up have been at the Watford branch and I have to say they have been very good as well. Both times I have been seen 5 mins early, as soon as I turned up, and the the staff are very freindly and again answered all questions professionally and with ease. My only very small gripe with the whole thing is that they tell you to allow 2.5 to 3 hours on the day, but I was done and ready to go in an hour!!! ...as someone was picking me up (and I couldn't get in contact with them) I had to wait quite a long time in the after-care room. So, no problem if someone is with you but if you are being collected, just be aware.

I was -5 in each eye with astigmatism in both, and had worn glasses since I was 3. For the last 6 years I have worn gas permeable lenses, which left me with dry and bloodshot eyes every day. At age 21, my prescription was stable, and I had my surgery on 18th May after a lot of research and a lot of putting it off! I would say that the surgery is completely painless but quite uncomfortable. The flap creation took 20 seconds on each eye, and the changes to my prescription, 30 seconds on each eye. The worst bit for me was the lifting and replacing of the flap by the surgeon. Afterward, my vision was hazy and blurry, and my eyes felt slightly gritty but not painful. I got a lift home from the clinic, and my eyes were very light sensitive and watery, even with sunglasses. I took some paracetamol, and went to sleep (with my goggles on!) for a couple of hours when I got home. When I woke up, my vision was clearer, but still a little cloudy. The next day, my vision was clear. I went for my 24 hour checkup and my vision was better than 20/20! My right eye is still quite red and bruised, but I have been instructed to use anti-inflammatory drops every hour, which are helping. I'm still experiencing starring of bright lights at night, so driving at night isn’t great, but apart from that, my vision is brilliant! Can't quite believe that I'm not wearing my contact lenses! I would recommend Optical Express, as the results have been great for me so far. However, at the Reading branch I went to, I found the admin was quite poor, with appointments always being late, being told different things by different people, and paperwork (such as confirmation of appointment times) being sent to me about 5 times in the post! I would say to anyone who has thinking about laser eye surgery for a while to go for it! It is not painful in the slightest and the results are amazing. Good luck!

The staff were fantastic and put me at my ease. My surgeon talked me through the procedure and also whilst undergoing the surgery. I was looked after very well and the aftercare was informative and friendly. I have had two check ups since the procedure and all is fine. My recovery has been quick and painless. Its been a week and I can see perfectly and have no discomfort. I thoroughly recommend surgery to anyone thinking about it.

My surgeon was Dimitri Kazakos at Optical Express Cribbs Causeway. Its now 24hrs later and I have better then 20/20 vision from a prescription of -6.75 in both eyes with 0.25 astigmatism. Staff were great. Procedure had 2 lasers, one for the flap and once to burn off the cornea. Creating the flap really hurt even with anesthetic drops but only lasted about 30 seconds. They do the flaps on each eye first then the sight correction. The flap is cut at the top half of your eye approx a millimeter around your iris. Sight correction bit doesn't hurt at all. Apparently if you have sensitive eyes like me, you are more likely to have pain. The team in surgery were really nice. Afterward went to a dark room then got checked over and discharged. Definitely need someone to take you home. Don't rely on taxi or bus. Once home, eyes were streaming for hours. Had to stay in the dark and couldn't see properly. Went to bed for 2hrs with eye shields on then had a meal then was able to watch TV in darkened room with shades on. As evening wore on, eyesight kept improving. By midnight it was clear. Definitely worth doing even with the worry, streaming eyes and initial pain. Also take your own pain killers just in case, and a pair of shades that covers your whole eye including the sides as you'll need them when you leave. The drops can give you bad breath so have mints ready for your appointment the next day. Hope this account is helpful.

Norwich - Optical Express I had the laser eye surgery over a year ago at Norwich – Optical Express and it the best money I have ever spent. I have not left any feedback before as I wanted to see how my eyes would beform over 12 months. The pre-op service was highly professional and very thorough. All the staff were very knowledgeable and I asked many questions all of which were easily answered. The day of the operation I was apprehensive but never worried as I was in the hands of professionals, let them do there job! There is obviously a risk but they wouldn’t perform the operation on both eyes, the same day if this risk was not a minimum. It was all over in less than 20 minutes. I cannot believe the final results, truly amazing, I can see better than 20/20. The first time I shot Clay Pigeons after surgery I was equal 1st in the Norfolk Championship, I can now enjoy golf in the rain and play squash without my glasses getting steamed up. My eyes are sometimes dry but this is a minor side effect and easily resolved wth drops. I thoroughly recommend having this surgery, thank you Optical Express. Regards Robert Howe

Staff were really kind and considerate and I would recommend OE in Meadowhall to anyone!!!
