I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.
Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.
Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.

Absolutely chuffed to bits! Less than 24 hours later my sight was 2 lines better than 20/20. Just found remembering what drops to take when a bit of a faff, but it's totally worth it. Not stopped smiling (once I could open my eyes after the first 3 hours of being mega sensitive to light). Thank you Mr Qasi (and all the staff at Minshull Street Manchester)

i had been thinking about having laser eye surgery for a long time so after my consultation in june and being told i was suitable i knew i had to have it done! i was very nervous on the day of suregery and this was not particularly helped by the surgeon( cant remember his name) saying 'young people often underestimate the pain' ( im 22yrs old) however he was nice, and the rest of the staff at the nottingham branch were lovely and reassuring. the procedure was absolutely fine, i was worried i'd panic if it was painful but it wasnt, it was just very odd and afterwards i was laughing about how nervous i had been over nothing! after i had dry eyes, they felt very heavy for the rest of the day but by the evening i had perfect vision and very little discomfort( i kept expecting it to get worse and it never did!) the next day i went back to the clinic and was told i had better than 20/20 vision and the following week, my optometrist said my eyes were 'phenomenal' it is now about 3 1/2 weeks since i had it done and i would not think twice about reccomending this treatment, it really is the best decision i have made, it has improved day to day life and my confidence tremendously! if you are considering it, please go for it, you wont regret it!:-)

Apart from having my children, this is the BEST thing I've ever done. I wouldn't hesitate to encourage my husband and friends to go ahead with laser eye surgery. The whole day and staff at Silverburn and Braehead have been fantastic.

In the main, the whole process went well. The consultation before treatment was detailed, and I found the staff to be very approachable. The surgery itself was held at Minshull St (Manchester) by Dr Qazi. On the day, before the operation, he went through what would happen during surgery. He answered all the questioned I had, and understood the nervousness that lay inside me. The results were excellent and within 6 hours of leaving Minshull St I had just off 20/20 vision. Although slightly uncomfortable, the staff built confidence within me to trust that the off 20/20 vision and minor discomfort would become less over time as the eyes healed. I now have 20/20 vision and the post-operative care is second to none. Considering I had a prescription of -5.0 in both eyes, I would have no question in recommending Optical Express for laser eye surgery. More specifically, the Minshull Street branch.

As a surgeon I did a lot of online research prior to embarking on this. I found optical express to be helpful, efficient and transparent and perhaps a bit less commercial than some of the other clinics who continue to bombard me with emails and post. They explained each part of the work up process and they provided me with details of the surgeon. The day of treatment was very straightforward and relaxing. I have been long sighted and worn glasses since the age of 5yrs and I`ve now had laser surgery at the age of 40. My prescriptions were about +3.5 and + 4.5 I think, with some astigmatism. I have waited for several years for laser to become good at treating long sightedness. My vision 1 month after laser is as good as with glasses and perhaps slightly better. The procedure itself was not in anyway painful but was a slightly strange experience but it was very quick. My eyes have been a lttle dry and I continue to use eye drops to keep them moist. For the first few days and up to 1-2 weeks the vision was good but a little blurry and they warned me that this does happen for long sight. Overall I`m delighted I had it done, my vision is great and I have no regrets and no complaints. A very good service from optical express which I can recommend without reservation. I have since had a follow up at the Torbay branch and the Plymouth branch and each of these branches have provided me with equally good service. Eye surgery is expensive but then the laser equipment, set up costs, staff costs and insurance costs all add up so on the whole I feel that it is reasonable value for money and of course the effect is life changing so it`s difficult to put a proce on that!

From the outset the entire experience was both professional and caring. The staff at the Preston branch couldn't have been more helpful. I had broken my glasses shortly after by initial consultation which was just the incentive I needed to get my surgery booked. My Optical Express counsellor and his colleague then went out of their way to choose and make up for me a pair of glasses to wear until I could have the surgery done. This was at no extra cost. As a big over thinker it took me years to eventually decide to opt for surgery, contemplating all the 'what if's' and weighing up all the pro's and cons. My poor counsellor was bombarded with much of this and wasn't at all phased. I spoke to him several times before the operation date and every time he was patient with me and answered my plethera of questions. The surgery itself was a lot quicker than I had anticipated and the surgeon and nurse who spoke to me post-op were both caring and down to earth. My vision was better than 20/20 by the next day. My follow up care has been thorough and I was given plenty of supplies in terms of eye drops and ointment etc. I am now coming up to 3 months post surgery and would definately recommend Optical Express to anyone.

From start to finish I found the staff at Chester, Manchester and the Trafford Centre very friendly and professional. I had a problem with the eye clamp staying in place the first time I went for treatment. This was down to nerves and the fact that I was so very tense. The surgeon was very reassuring and told me that they would be able to try again in about 10 days, after the redness in my eye had gone down. I arrived at 2.30pm on 6th July 2009 and was seen by the surgeon who explained everything to me again. They asked me if I would like someone to hold my hand, which I accepted! Everything was done at my pace, they constantly asked me if I was OK, counted down the amount of time left for each part of the surgery and if I was ready for the next steps. By 4.30pm I was done. The first hour or so after the surgery was the worst, I couldn't open my eyes, due to them being sensitive to the light and they streamed with tears. I took a co-codamol and that eased the discomfort. Since then I've had no discomfort at all. I suffered no pain whatsoever, just discomfort. I cannot thank them enough for what they have done. My vision was quite bad (-7.0 R -7.5 L) and now I can see everything. I took great pleasure in throwing my glasses away and can now properly look forward to a worry free trip to Namibia. Would definately recommend them to a friend. Totally worth every penny.

The actual process itself isnt too bad at all, just the sensation of pressure-its all over so quickly. It was very uncomfortable for the first hour on the journey from Bristol to Exeter, I was hypersensitive to light and could not open my eyes. It eased up considerably after the prescribed rest period. After my one week consultation I had the fantastic result of 20/20 vision in my weaker eye and better than 20/20 in my right. IT REALLY IS WORTH IT!. Dont feel that you automatically have to go for wavefront, being the latest method,(UNLESS SPECIFICALLY ADVISED TO) it is more expensive and I am proof of the equally great effect of this other technique. I recommend that you ask for extra lubricating drops though as you will get through alot, keep them by your bedside for when you first wake up.
