Surgeon, Pascal gave the okay. he even offered me to come back in a couple of weeks if i wanted but assured me that it was not a problem to go ahead. had treatment - brilliant. no pain, no discomfort. I'd read before that it was like a trip to the dentist - NOT - i'm terrified of the dentist, this was a breeze. I had looked at an internet page withi shopws a video of the procedure and i feel this helped me - i know how long everything took and i really think this helped me _if you wan the address of the video, e-mail me at nicky@white90210.freeserve.co.uk I got emotional afterwards, as i could already see brilliantly. (had a smokey glaze but that was all) left the office after about 45 minutes,(treatment completed at ten to four) Feeling was like the feeling i got when i'd had my babies safely - relief that all was okay, and joy at the end result. Staff were brilliant - and treat you like your terrified even if your not - someone tells you whats hapening (not the gory bits don't worry) and someone holds your hand. really professional, and very caring. really did feel like i was the only patient and they really did care about me. lest clinic about 5.30 (even the receptionist said bye and seemed seemed interested (not like the doctors receptionists !!) my hubby sneeked a look at my eyes and said they were really bloodshot, but by the time we got the the NCP carpark (what a rip off that is ) not bloodshot at all. he could also see the ink marksthat they make to ensure the cornea is correctly replaced !! Ride home was fine, but i took a couple of neurofen to be on the safe side. Just before 6.00 my syes started to sting (a very little bit, less that peeling onions) had my eye drops and laid down (9the eye drops stopped the stinging !) woke up at 7.30 ish and no smokey blurat all., but now light sensitive, sungalsses, closed curtains, no lights, no TV !!! really funny !! Lasted about 1 hour then all okay.did'nt watch telly or read, just chatted to family and listened to TV with eyes shut (most of the time !!!) So to bed - bloody night shields - the worst thing i think, you have to tape these to your face while you're asleep - and the tape is so sticky you want get the residue off your face !!! Went back to 24 hour check - all okay, vision better in my right eye as planned. Don't know what the snellen chart read as i did'nt ask, but i was happy to see the chart (before i could'nt see the top letter) Kept to the 2 hourly eye drops until bedtime on second day (tip for you, if you use the two types of drops at the same time you dilute the dops and get a stickly white goo round your eyes, leave 5 or10 minutes beteen drops and no goo !!) Went for 1 week check up yesterday , and i have 20/20 vision. I can honestly say - i've had no pain, no real discomfort (only the bloody sticky tape) and it's been worth evry penny. I'm so glad i chose Ultralase, they really know what theya re doing. before treatment, i thought that £2300 was a lot to pay, but now having it done i realise i would have paid a lot more. it's brilliant. I really think that you have to be religious in the aftercare, we kep to the 2 hour and 4 hour times religiously and at the 1 week check i was told they could only just see the edges of the cornea. I've clear vision, no night vision problems to speak of and after a few more weeks - no glasses or night shields I'm already reccomending Ultralase to everyone who chats to me. The procedure is great and Ultralase are great at doing it. Thanks to everyone who i had contact with at Ultralase (i know you read this site!!!) i can't wait until i can throw away the nightshileds and try wearing make-up for the first time in 30 years !!!

I have been considering treatment for astigmatism for some time now but my vision is really not that bad. I only wear glasses for closed computer work but not for day to day use. Is it really worth the cost/time out of work and all the trips back to the surgery???

Just to clarify to those who might be interested (See previous posting). When you submit yourself for surgery, you sign a disclaimer which clearly advises you that infection is possible. Our problem is not with the fact that my wife's eyes were seriously infected but with how they were allowed to degenerate and what happened after we asked for help from Ultralase. We only went to them because we beleived the after care would be 1st class should there be a problem. All I can say is, thank God for the NHS! We are happy to receive your emails but hope that this will allow readers to understand the specific nature of our concerns.
