I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
4. The Verdict

There are some niggling inconveniences in life that can be overcome with some money and a little faith. As a spectacle, and latterly contact lens wearer for 25 years or so, Lasik eye surgery is one of these things. I felt that as the technology was basically proved over the last 10-12 years and the price was dropping as numbers picked up, this year was the time to investigate laser eye surgery. I sent off for details of the clinics offering the procedure in the Glasgow area and having read as much as I could on the subject, made an appointment at the Optical Express clinic in Renfield St. Glasgow. The consultation is much like a contact lens eye test with a few more tests thrown in for good measure. The 1st consultation wasn’t completed as I was referred back to my GP for some historical information, then a 2nd consultation completed the pre surgery tests. Although this delayed surgery, I was actually quite relieved that the optometrist wanted a 2nd opinion from my GP rather than proceeding immediately to surgery. I went in on the 6th April and the op itself was straightforward. Again all the expected good procedures were followed, everything that would happen was explained, the plastic shoe covers were on, the plastic cap put on, and off to the laser suite. I happily took the sedative offered and have to say the op only took a matter of a few minutes and little or no discomfort was felt. After that it was a taxi home to sleep for the afternoon. After 3 hours or so, vision had improved to such an extent that I could see sharp rooflines on houses hundreds of yards away. Not wanting to push my luck I spent the 1st evening listening to the radio in the dark to prevent any possible eyestrain. Next morning I went back to the clinic who were happy with the progress and declared me as having 20/20 vision. This was something I’d never been able to achieve with specs or contacts over the years. There were three sets of eye drops to be used at regular intervals and plastic eye shields to be worn at night to prevent any possibility of rubbing the eyes while asleep. A week later I has another review and all is settling down well. I’ll have another review in a further few weeks and then a last one 3 months after the treatment. The staff at Renfield St were excellent and having asked for Ms Susanna Boytha’s CV at the consultation, I felt I was in the best possible hands. With the 10% off offer, I had both eyes treated for a total of £1080. A day or two after treatment my wife shelled out £250 for her new set of specs…….. I’ve now got excellent vision and have experienced no side effects at all. I’m looking forward to getting back on the golf course soon, and I’d happily recommend the procedure and the Renfield St clinic to anyone considering the surgery.

I had LASIK at Milton Keynes yesterday & I'm delighted with the results already. The staff were all superb, very reassuring & informative before, during & after surgery. The procedure is undoubtedly strange & uncomfortable but not painful. I achieved driving standard by the post op check at 15 minutes! It's improved further today & is a wonderful surprise so soon. After treatment my eyes were gritty & light sensitive afterwards but again not very painful. From about 18 hours after surgery the discomfort was gone. After nervously researching this for 2 years, I would recommend Optical Express. A big thankyou to Dr Crewe Brown, Dasi, Gill, Charles & Pori who all put me at ease.

The clinic is a very comfortable environment with staff that put you at ease. The surgery is explained very well before you go ahead, all of the negative points are made very clear before the positive and there is no pressure to make a decision. The procedure is a little unnerving but mine was a complete success with excellent aftercare. I'm so pleased I went ahead with it.

I had LASIK surgery in May 2004. Now nearly a year on I can whole heartedley say that my life has been totally transformed. My dream of waking up and seeing instead of reaching for my glasses has been realised. Sport is now more enjoyable without the worry of glasses of lenses. Optical Express were great from the start, during and after the surgery. I cannot recommed it enough to anyone. It honestly transforms your life and it is one of the best decisins I ever made.

Deliberation, dissection and discussion later, finally I mustered up the courage to have laser eye surgery. Initially, I ventured down to Ultralase, only to discover that they were unable to accommodate my needs as my prescription was too high and their equipment was unable to provide the microsurgery I required. Disillusioned, I walked away and was contemplating abandoning the whole idea, but decided a second opinion was in order. LaserVision were able to perform the necessary surgery with new technology they had just acquired and my vision is now at perfection. What more could you ask for? Friendly, professional, advanced and highly recommended.
Colin Smith
Found everything to be high quality very pleased with the whole process

I had lasik surgery performed on 20t April 2005 by Mr Giledi. and after 3 days I am still seeing with perfect vision. On the day everything ran smoothy. Was in and out of the surgery within 20 mins, and there is nothing to be worried about. Everyone was very profressional and caring. I was -2.5 in both eyes and have had no problems since surgery. IN fact after the op my eyes were teary and hard to keep open for about 1.5 hrs and then everything was crystal clear although I follwed advise and stayed in with my eye shields. If you are think of getting, although it is early days I highly recommend it! My eyes simply feel normal, but I am able to see perfectly and on post surgery was 2 lines below 20/20! (which is excellent!) It is the best money I have ever pent and I am sure i will be for those considering it as well!

My treatment took place at the Birmingham Clinic, but all my check-ups and main support has been undertaken at the Nottingham Branch. I feel that I have to say that this has been an amazing experience, not much short of a mini miracle for me. I have worn glass`s since my early teens, and now, with very little discomfort after the operation, I find that I can see far better than I could have hoped for, and currently dont even need the reading glass`s ( at 47 yrs old thats not bad going !). I have been well looked after, especially by Judith who put my mind at rest initially and has supported me throroughly through the procces, and most particularly, by Pretti, a lovely woman who has inspired great faith in me and who I trust entirley to put my well being first and foremost. She is meticulous in her work and lovely company to be in, what more could I ask for ? If I had to have the proceedure done again in a few years time I really wouldnt hesitate, Im so pleased that I had it done, and havnt "looked" back once. There was little discomfort, no real pain at all, and none of it lasted very long, well worth it for years of good sight, no glass`s, and feeling so much better about myself, if youve been told youre suitable then go fot it !!! Its worth every penny.

Outstanding clinic, thoroughly professional and extremely helpful. I have perfect vision and it took a 5 minute operation, and also thanks to the Nurse who held my hand! I would recommend them to anyone, indeed my sister is going for the operation next year! Thankyou LaserVision

I had Wavefront guided lasik 1 week ago (21-4-2005) at Shaftsbury Ave, London. All the staff there were excellent, I had the proceedure performed at 12 midday and was able to leave at 2pm with all of my eye drops etc. The proceedure was painless, nothing more than some odd sensations followed by a gritty feeling for about 4 hours. 1 week on my vision is better than 20:20 I am absolutely thrilled by the transformation. If anyone is unsure about getting this done I would just say "Go for it" well worth the 1 day it takes. My night vision has some halos around lights but these are dissappearing by the day. All of my follow up takes place in the Southampton centre and again all the staff and care I have received has been great.
