Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
4. The Verdict
I can highly recommend Optical Express. They are very professional, and the procedure was pain free. The best thing now is I can see very well without glasses – and it was only done 3 weeks ago. – Elaine Gibson

I wrote on this board New Year , I've since had the Lasik treatment and to Lynn Herbert all I can say is go for it girl , if your eye sight is anywhere as bad as mine WAS, you'll never regret the decision. I had my treatment at Northumberland Road Newcastle, I don't live far from there, Killingworth if you know it, and I can tell you the difference is immediate, I couldn't possibly write this email without my "specs" before . The staff were great. the treatment wasn't painful, more uncomfortable, but there's always someone there to reassure and dispel any fears you may have. It's only ten days since I've had this done, but believe me, every day is a new experience . I'll keep the board posted of any further developments, good or bad.

On 13th January i had Lasik eye surgery at the Milton Keynes Eye Clinic. I was not at all nervous due to the wonderful care of ALL the staff on the consultation visit. I was also thrilled to find my surgeon was to be Clive Mortimer who i believe is one of the best in his field. The surgery was painless .My eyes were watering until i got home and went to bed. After 4 hours i got up and have not looked back! Today i went for my 4 week checkup. Apart from a slightly dry left eye, my vision is better than 20/20. I do need glasses for reading but at 56 its par for the course. I really wish i could have had this done when i was younger but its never to late! So to anyone thinking about it, go for it!!! And once again thankyou to all the staff at the Milton Keynes clinic. You are all stars! you my whole experience very pleasant. Jan Millward.

I had my 1 month check up yesterday and everything is perfect. Its been great from about day 1 really. This really is the best money I've ever spent. I still cant believe that I can see without glasses. My vision is better than 20/20, I can see the bottom line of the chart with both eyes (which I could do from day 1 check-up). The optician is pleased for me, he said again yesterday that if everyone has the same outcome as me then we would all be doing it. As they say in the brochure : I wished I'd had it done years ago!!!!!!! Nichola

I have had my consultation for lasik at Newcastle on the 14th Feb and I am booked for surgery on the 25th Feb. The surgeon is Rodney Eve and I wondered if anybody had any experience of him? My prescription is quite low -175 in both eyes with slight astigmatism in the right. My main concerns surrounded problems with night vision but they assured me that my pupils are within the correct range for treatment. Overall I was very impressed with the clinic.
Mike Whittaker
had lasik performed by Dr Aziz on Friday 14th February. Only one minor complication with flap in right eye moving immediately after surgery. Sorted this by inserting a daily-disposable lens for 24hrs. Decided not to have valium before treatment, and must say I did find it very uncomfortable, but the nurses were super. Following day reported excellent vision in left eye, but too soon to tell in right eye due to some abrasion frosting vision. This cleared up totally after 48hrs and I can see perfectly now. Eye drops are a pain in the neck, but obviously necessary. Will report further comment after one week check up, but so far so good, other that haloing I am experiencing at night. I am hoping this will clear within a few weeks, but driving is OK now anyway.

I have recently had a assesment, and was told that my pupils are onthe large size therefore I would be more at risk of night time vision problems. I was impressed with the honest information given and have decided that I am not prepared to under go the procedure at the present time. With all the current publicity I am sure I have made the right choice, I would advise anybody to listen to the surgeon, and act accordingly. Whilst all lasers claim to be better than another, there is not one that will guarantee a reduction in night time vision problems, if there was do you think all clinics would be using it??? I noticed that somebody has mentioned to go to Accuvision for the new wavefront technology...check out her e mail address, she works for the company. Yours eyes are precious and the surgeon is the expert.

I had Lasik surgery for short sight at the Shaftesbury Avenue clinic at the end of November 2002 and can't recommend it (the surgery) highly enough as have had perfect vision since then. The only problem I have had is slight dryness but this has now cleared up - and to be honest, it was nothing compared to how dry my eyes used to get whilst wearing contact lenses in an air-conditioned office every day! The op itself was painless and very quick, and the surgical team and carer were brilliant. The only comment I would make about The Norwich Eye Clinic (where I had my consultation and am having my follow-up appointments) is that I have never been seen on time at any of my appointments, prior to or after the surgery. Every time I have been in I've had to wait between 20 minutes to half an hour past the time the appointment was booked for. I have spoken to other people and they have had the same problem. It might seem petty, but definitely detracts from the overall good service that they offer. Re. the surgery though, anyone who is thinking about it, go for it!
Joanne
Just a follow up to my previous posting. I had bi-lateral lasik on the 25th at Newcastle (Rodney Eve - surgeon) and I am delighted with the results. It was a bit scary but well worth it in the end. At my first check up I had 20/20 vision in both eyes.
Julian Calder
6 days on from my surgery and so far total success, operation was interesting rather than painful, the flap cutting slightly uncomfortable, vision 20/20 within 24hrs, very little discomfort, initially some fluctuation in vision as expected but this now ceased. Night vision not noticeably better (yet?) but have not driven so not really tested. At 1 week check up am expecting 20/10 vision. You get you what you pay for as every body posting here mentions. What you get at Accuvision is a laser 4 times faster than competitors allowing for quicker operation time and less time for flap to dry out. Flap healing is therefore quicker and less chance of complications. Quicker telemetry so laser is repositioned quicker when eye moves and therefore increased accuracy. Finer laser so more accurate "burning" of corneal tissue. "Wavefront" technology measures thickness of cornea in 168 places giving topographical map of corneal thickness. More tissue can be taken from thicker "peaks" of cornea and less from "troughs". This allows less corneal tissue to be taken for same correction. This is important as the residual thickness of the cornea is cteris all things being equal better thicker than thinner. The recent adverse publicity should help thin out the competition in provision of lasik surgery. Those following Accuvision lead will no doubt survive, those not updating their technology and employing pushy sales consultants rather than opthamalgic consultants and pressuring clients into signing up for surgery on the day of consultation with discount offers should not be (in an ideal world) in the market place as they are giving lasik an unnecessary reputation as a risky procedure. Thanks to ALL at Accuvison.

I can highly recommend LaserVision as being extremely professional and their staff very informative. Mr Williams was excellent his main concern being your eyes, not pleasantries, which was fine by me. The treatment was a little uncomfortable but certainly not painful. Ten weeks post op and having followed the aftercare regime exactly as instructed, I am happy to report not a single complication and perfect vision after being –4.75 –5.25 with astigmatism for over 20 years. It’s a miracle.
