Is there anything I should know? It’s refreshing to see transparent laser eye surgery prices, and it’s rare for private eye clinics to offer interest free laser eye surgery finance options. 4. Mr Romesh Angunawela Review: The Verdict
So, is Mr Angunawela the right eye surgeon for you? Of course, that all depends on whether you live in London, and how deep your pockets are.
Mr Angunawela features as one of the best laser eye surgeons in the UK, given his extensive experience (even in complex procedures) and thumbs up from customers. It’s also rare to find an ophthalmologist with more awards.
However, he is London based, and – as you would expect from his eye-dropping experience in vision correction – his prices are at the upper end, with even the initial consultation costing £250. If that price tag is giving you goose bumps, there are many other safe options in the UK.

It feels great to be free of the need to wear glasses or contact lenses for the first time since childhood. Previously I was very short sighted. I considered laser eye surgery but was hesitant, I guess because you only have one set of eyes. That is why, when I did decide to get laser surgery I went to Moorfields – I wanted the best. I was not disappointed. My surgeon, Romesh Angunawela, has a reassuring presence as well as a wealth of experience and knowledge, in addition he really took the time to understand and address my concerns. He listened patiently and provided clear choices and explanations. My eyesight is now near perfect – I am confident that I won’t need any aftercare, but should I do so Romesh would always be my first choice.

Mr Angunawela carried out my LASEK surgery early in 2014 and I am absolutely delighted with the results – I don’t remember ever seeing as well as this before (previously myopic and astigmatic). The results of the surgery were exactly as planned.
The first stage of the process was to have an assessment consultation and tests. Information about the various types of surgery was provided in advance and the tests seemed very thorough. At this assessment I was found to have early stage Fuchs’ Dystrophy (a condition missed at routine eye tests), so I was advised to have LASEK surgery rather than the other procedures if I wanted to go ahead. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and no pressure to take things further unless and until I wanted to do so.
The procedure was pain free with every step explained and excellent follow-up care (including an extra check when I had a minor problem with the bandage contact lenses that caused me some anxiety).
I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Angunawela as a knowledgeable, skilled and sympathetic surgeon. I am most grateful to him and his colleagues for their care and my vastly improved eyesight.

I underwent LASIK treatment at Moorfields Eye Hospital in March 2014. I was very pleased with Mr Angunawela’s care throughout the procedure: he was attentive, personable, reassuring and above all achieved great results for me.

When my optician confirmed in April that my blurred sight was due to cataracts he suggested I might see Mr Angunawela.
I am so glad that I was referred to this surgeon for Mr Angunawela made the whole process of undergoing cataract surgery in both eyes so easy and completely pain free and the result has been like a miracle to someone who has been short sighted for about 65 years and can now watch performances in the theatre, opera house or cinema without glasses. He was very professional but also very kind and patient and made sure that I was fully informed of the options and he was supported by staff who were equally reassuring.
I am so grateful to Mr Angunawela for his skill in transforming my life.

I have recently had lens replacement surgery and after wearing glasses for 33 years, latterly varifocals, I no longer need them. Eye surgery was a scary prospect but from first to last, Mr Angunawela was open, straightforward and reassuring. The surgery itself was painless and the care I received at Moorfields was efficient and friendly. I have had very little (and very minor) discomfort during the process or since and wish I had had it done when I was younger.

I was wearing spectacles for 20 years and contact lenses for 17 years. My vision was most recently assessed at -3.75 and I always dreamt about waking up in the morning and seeing without reaching for my spectacles. I hesitated to make my decision about the operation for many years. I was scared that I might lose my sight totally instead of improving it.
However, when I read about Mr Romesh’s experience in laser eye surgery I started believing that he might be able to change my life for good. I decided to do the operation and I am very glad I finally did it, as I am happier than ever. The result is amazing, and my vision is better than 20/20. I did not have any problems after the operation and went back to work on Wednesday after having the procedure on Monday afternoon .
Dr Romesh was very professional, knowledgeable and supportive through the whole process. The hospital personnel were also very welcoming and kind, which helped to calm me down on the day of the operation.
Thank you ever so much!

I am very happy with the results. My vision is now excellent, and after being very short sighted for the last 25 years, I couldn’t be happier. Dr Angunawela made me feel very much at ease, and the surgery was quick and painless. I am also very happy with the 2 year aftercare package which has put my mind to rest. Am so glad I went to Moorfields and recommend Dr Angunawela very highly.

After much deliberation I went to see Mr Angunawela regarding the Lens Replacement Procedure.
I was scared, as most people are about the prospect of having my eyes tampered with but from the moment his PA Sonia contacted me to my final follow up appointment I could not have asked for better care.
Everything was explained to me clearly and Mr Angunawela pointed out not just the advantages but some of the disadvantages that may occur as a result of the procedure.
It was not painful at all (and I have a low pain threshold)
More importantly I can now read and see without glasses. The result was almost immediate.
Thank you for enhancing my quality of life.

Mr Angunawela provides both an excellent and personalised service.
I was unsure about whether or not to have the procedure done at first, but after my consultation I was reassured not only that I was in expert hands but also that I was fully informed about what all the potential risks and benefits would be.
The team he works with share his excellent standard of care.
Highly recommended.
