I wouldn't recommend Optimax to anyone, the customer service of the Bristol branch is shocking. They don't keep to their appointment times and don't even apologise for the delay plus they lied every time when we asked them how muc ...Read more

4. The Verdict

laser eye surgery review verdict

I am really happy with the results. Apart from the machine not working and the long wait, the staff at this Optimax were really nice, friendly and helpful, as was Dr Patel. I would recommend this Optimax. – Tina Gibson

(3.9 out of 5)

Optimax has an average overall rating due to hit-and-miss patient care, based on nearly 9,000 independent reviews on Lasik Eyes since 2002.

Most patients we spoke to were happy with the service. However, the long waiting times and poor communication mean this clinic misses the top spots on the list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK. Still, Optimax makes it into these top lists:

I'm booked in for Lasik at Croydon in August and am concerned as I've heard there can be lots of waiting around on the actual treatment day. I thought it would just take 15 mins and I could go home. Can anyone let me know the truth?

Hi I have a consultation for Epi-Lasek booked at Optimax (Glasgow) at the end of September, with Dr Anwar Ul-Haq. Does anyone have experience of him and does anyone out there know of the cons of Epi-Lasek? I haven't been able to find out much about Epi version of Lasek on the WWW so far so its quite worrying! I am too terrified of flap complications to go for Lasik after reading lasikdisaster.com!!!!!

I have had a consultation at the Bristol branch by Dr Fiachetti. I appreciate that these surgeons should be honest and straightforward but he was so abrupt and unenthusiastic that I left quite depressed and decided to wait longer. I have prescription of -6 and -5. Has anybody else had surgery by Dr Fiachetti or to that prescription? What was the outcome? He decided I could have Lasek but really piled on the possible problems. I have had a problem sometimes with I think it's called 'persistent erosion' where when I wake up and open my eye the surface is scratched. This heals in a about thirty minutes, but he suggested it may get worse due to 'dry eye'. But I don't suffer with dry eyes at the moment. Would welcome comments from anybody but particularly anyone that has had this problem. From reading comments on other companies - they seem to successfully treat much higher prescriptions than Optimax - Dr Fiaschetti indicated that I was on the limit.

I am going for consultation next Saturday 6th Nov, then all being well Epi-Lasek treatment two hours later, am feeling quite sick now, and have a another week to get through yet, I am under Dr Ilango, I do hope he is of a caring nature, his photo is not very reassuring, they should have got him to smile. Does everyone feel sick like me or am I just being a drama queen. If they tell me I can't have it done, after all this build up I will be so disappointed.

Has anyone had any dealings with Optimax in Leeds? I'm thinking about booking a consultation with them for Lasik (I'm -6.00 in both eyes). Did have a consultation with Ultralase earlier in the year but bottled out! I would appreciate any comments on Leeds clinic. Thanks

I'm about to book a consultation in Croydon but would like to hear experiences from anyone who has recently had surgery here. I'd also like to hear from anyone who has had laser surgery and has young children as I don't think my 2 yr old will allow me to rest and sleep after the procedure.

I have booked laser eye surgery at the Aberdeen branch, I come from Glasgow but was refered to Aberdeen as I have extremely large pupils..... My treatment takes place on Wednesday 8th December '04, I have a very high prescription of -7.5 in both eyes, so you can imagine I cant see anything without my glasses (not even my glasses ;-) ), my eyes are just sick and tired of contacts that I wear for over 15 hours on a day to day basis since I was 16 (30 now), so keep your fingers crossed everyone, and i'll let you know how things go.

Had the operation done, slightly scary but not to bad. Its just a bit weird having a new sensation of people messing around inside your eyes... no pain, eyes were really watery after op. Woke up the next morning and saw the alarm clock without any aids ;-) things are still a bit blury, but not to bad, a fair amount of night vision / halo round lights at the moment, but hopefully this will get better in time. I have a post op 1 week checkup next week in Glasgow. I'm not sure if they've managed to bang the nail on the head yet only time will tell. Will keep you all updated, but I will be able to drive down the road tomorow but not at night.... I have £100 Off vouchers if any 1 is interested? things havent setled down yet but im impressed so far, ill send another after the 1st week checkup bfn.
