4. The Verdict
I am really happy with the results. Apart from the machine not working and the long wait, the staff at this Optimax were really nice, friendly and helpful, as was Dr Patel. I would recommend this Optimax. – Tina Gibson

Most patients we spoke to were happy with the service. However, the long waiting times and poor communication mean this clinic misses the top spots on the list of the best laser eye surgery clinics in the UK. Still, Optimax makes it into these top lists:

Has anyone had surgery with Dr S Doyle in Manchester? I would be interested to learn about your experience. I have been booked in for a consultation in August 2003 My prescription is -7.5 in both eyes but have been told by another clinic that I would be suitable for LASEK (Epiflap) and not LASIK due to thin corneas. I have spoken to Optimax and they have said that Dr Doyle does LASEK for high prescriptions but I would only be interested if I can get rid of my glasses completely!

My mum and I are both looking at having LASIK surgery with Optimax. At the moment they are offering 2 people for the price of 1. Has anyone any idea how they can charge so little compared to other clinics £1,500 for both of us.

Hi I am hoping to get surgery done but aint sure which type I am longsighted, with my right eye being +5.50 and my left being +7.00, I am told that PRK provides promising results

Toni I have now booked my consultation and surgery appointments for Birmingham in the middle of September. Now that this is done I'm starting to worry about all sorts of things, in particular, the rubbing of the eyes. I understand that you can't rub them for upto 3 weeks after LASIK, and I have already noticing how much I rub them now, which I never noticed before. What would happen if such an incident occurred after the surgery. I have also read that a knock on the head is a bit of a worry, obviously I don't plan on hitting my head, but if anything did happen is this a problem for life or just until the eyes have settled. One last thing the whole family is going to America middle of October and this is about 4 weeks after the surgery - borderline, would swimming be completely out of the question, as long as I had no complications with the surgery. I hope you can put my mind at ease. Thanks, Eloise

After a wait of 2 months for an appointment for Lasik treatment at Optimax Bristol, my appointment was cancelled by them with 2 days notice with no repeat appointment available until september. We were told the surgeon's insurance had expired. So beware if you have a weeks holiday booked as i did.

A new clinic has just opened up in Ipswich, Suffolk. I went along to the open day and they were very helpful. I am now considering having the surgery. My perscription is -2.5 with astigmitisium and I understand Lasek is best for me. I have also seen the 2 for 1 offer and my sister is interested in this. I was just after some reasurrance really before I book the surgery.

Hi all, I've just started looking into having LASIK / LASEK corrective eye treatement. I currently wear 30 day (DAY&NIGHT) contact lenses at a strength of -3.75. I'm really keen to set rid of the lenses as my future job path necessitates it. I've started to research all the info on the web and there seems to be a lot. However, I get the general impression that LASIK is probably the way to go based on the degree of my eye defect. I also like the look of Optimax's prices and there located in Newcastle . Just wanted anyones comments or experiences with the Newcastle branch. Thanks in advance, Mike

could anyone tell me if they've had the lens implant surgery at Optimax Finchley Rd and how it has been? is it a good alternative to lasik?
michael
I've decided to have LASEK at Birmingham branch. They are offering me a 2 for 1 deal but nobody I know wants it doing. So if you've done your reseach and are fully commited to the idea please contact me asap so we can both save some cash.
