I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.
Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.
Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.

I had Lasek treatment at Milton Keynes in December and I now have perfect vision. The staff were extremely professional and the aftercare excellent. I can recommend Optical Express and I should have been brave and had this done years ago.

I underwent the laser surgery 3 months ago and I have had nothing bad to say about the whole experience. I now have 20/20 vision and wish that I had it done years ago. I would recommend Optical Express to anyone as they offer a fantastic service and the staff are excellent.

I had surgery yesterday on the 17th March in Belfast. It was painless and took only minutes. Afterwards my eyes felt a bit gritty for about 4 hours but improved hour by hour. Today I can see perfectly. The staff were lovely and the surgeon (Stefan Klopper) was very professional. I would recommend anyone thinking about it to go for it. I wish I had done it before now.It really is amazing to be able to see without lenses or glasses. It is the best thing I have ever spent money on.

LASEK - B'ham Jan '06 - Surgeon: Mr George I am extremely pleased with my results. I have better than 20:20 vision and I've joined the group who now say they wish they'd done it years ago. In fairness, I was never convinced the technology or the expertise was really established until a few years ago, so I do consider my timing right and my choice of clinic correct too. After what considered an extensive search for the right clinic at a reasonable price, (I paid £600 per eye and on interest free credit, which is great) I got myself all geared up to have the LASIK treatment. It gives the same results as LESEK, had a very short recovery time, is less painful and the results were the same. Only on the day of the treatment did Mr George lay preference for me to have the LASEK saying it was a less intrusive treatment and removed the threat of any potential flap problems. The recovery time is longer and it proved as much. I had to write the week off, and struggled to operate efficiently for the next week and a half. I set my laptop to large font and for this time and attempted to work 2-3 inches from the screen. To be fair, the consultant staff did say that the surgeon may lay a preference on the day depending on your personal situation, it was just that LESIK appeared the easiest and simple of the 2 options. The treatemt is amazing. Believe me, I'm squeamish, but at no time was I ever concerned or nervous. On the contrary, the staff make you feel very relaxed and portray an air of total efficiency. They explain all the steps as they go along. As with most things, verbal explanation is a lot worse than the real thing. Alcohol in the eye, scrape over the outer layer, laser the eye, push back the layer, slight smell of burning (eye I guess!) all sound terrifying and enough to put anyone off. But, it simply isn't like that. All over in less that 15 minutes in the chair, I was then in another room being given instructions to a cocktail of drops, then back home. The sight for me was very blurred for the first week and a half. Imagine scraping a taught layer of cling-film to one side, and then puling it back. There are going to be creases and depending where those creases are in relation to your line of sight will depend on how blurred your vision is. Once I rationalised it this way I was comfortable with the healing process knowing it was a matter of time they ironed out. Its been 7 weeks now sinse the treatment and it is fantastic. I can't express my delight strongly enough. The staff are great, the surgery is very clean and hygienic. I would have liked more information on Mr George before the treatment. Telling me he was some kind of Medical Officer in the Navy (Optical Express website) covering diving doesn't tell me his expertise, qualifications, referral rates, etc. Even when I asked for his CV I was presented with a laminated version of his career, which I had to hand back. I quickly noted some key points and attempted to search the internet to ensure he was indeed someone you would trust with your most precious gift. Of course he proved to be excellent. I did find his name on the Wolverhampton Hospital web site so I was assured he wasn't some struck-off surgeon with a snorkel. He was very professional and I thank him for giving me fantastic vision. So, well done to all. Would I recommend? I have, 6 friends and family have already booked for consultation.

I had my Lasik surgery in Manchester (Mr Khan) on the 20th January 2006 and I now have to remind myself how inconvenient glasses and contact lenses were so that I dont take my 'new eyes' for granted. I have just less than 20/20 vision, but there is still time for improvement. The surgery makes such a difference to the everyday things, like driving and swimming. The staff were amazing throughout, from the consultation in Leeds, the surgery in Manchester and for all my check up appointments at Meadowhall. I was so nervous before surgery that if I could have escaped I would have fled from the clinic, luckily I was the first patient in and I need not have worried at all. The surgery took only 5 minutes and was not painful at all. To be honest it all happens so quickly once you walk in the laser room that you do not have time to think about it. I could not open my eyes for a few hours as the daylight made them run like mad (not fun been driven over the Snake Pass with your eyes shut!!) but only a few hours later I was sat watching TV in my sunglasses. From then on I had no discomfort or pain at all - except for the humiliation of looking like a fly and being laughed at when I put the eye shields on to go to bed at night!! In short, I would recommend the surgery to anyone and the service by Optical Express was first class.

I have recently had my Lasik Wavefront eye surgery on 23rd March and found the Optical Express clinic in Milton Keynes to be excellent producing 20/20 vision plus for me and I would highly recommend this clinic.

I had the lasek treatment on the 18th of February, before i was a bit scared, but optical express was A1, the only negative was the wait whan i had the treatment in Birmingham, i arrived at 9.00am but my treatment didn't start until 1.15pm which didn't help the butterflies. The first 4day were hard, this was due to the contacts but after they were removed it was fine, a month in i feel more confindent, i have just played football tonight and it was brillant because i used to play with out my glasses on and couldn't see that well, cause i didn't fancy contacts, i hope this feedback helps anyone Cheers and good luck Cheers Darren

Had wavefront lasik eye surgery on 25/03/06 at Optical Express Southampton. Can't believe how brilliant my sight is. First day I spent about 5 hours asleep, which is the best thing to do as eyes were very sensitive. Although I was very very nervous the staff were brilliant and put me at ease. The procedure was weird but painless. Two days later my eyes feel like nothing has been done to them but my distance vision is better than it has ever been and night time vision is even better. Would thouroughly recommend this surgery to anyone.
