I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle
Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.
Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.
Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.

After 6 months I am reasonably happy. There was a period around 3 months when I was given the impression that the surgery would have to be repeated to achieve good acceptable vision. I have now realised that the problem was more to do with my expectations than the results of the surgery. I was promised good distance vision but told that reading would need simple glasses and that has been achieved. My distant vision is not perfect but I suspect it was not perfect when I wore glasses. Everyone I met at Milton Keynes was helpful and full of good humour which gave me great confidence in their ability. I found Dasi particularly helpful in the recuperative stages, her clear and simple explanations of the problems were an important part of the post-operative period. She was also important in the process of resolving the difference between my expectations and what is achievable. Of course everything is too expensive, cheaper would always be better but I feel that at my age the improvement in vision has been good value for the money.
J Browne
Staff are very friendly and answered any questions about the treatment thoroughly. The procedures are fully explained in a professional and competent manner which fully met my concerns. The post operative care is also thorough. A truly professional and caring service.

No pain, better than 20/20 vision in under 24 hours - no light sensitivity either. Very pleased with everything - only negative aspect was post op limitations different than told at consultation ie. at consultation, I was told I'd be able to swim after a week, yesterday I was told 1 month - I go on holiday next week!!!!!!

I had treatment 3 months ago and it has been the est thing i have ever done. My vision is the best it ever has been I've gone from +3.75 right and left to having 20/20 vision. I had no pain during or after treatment, i felt great straight after having the op and have never looked back! If you have the money get it done, i don't no why i waited for so long. I had my consult and treatment with optical express in George Street. IT COULDN'T HAVE GONE BETTER. BIG THANKS TO OPTICAL EXPRESS.

Prescription: right eye - 1.75 Left eye 1.50 I had my treatment at Optical Express in Cambridge on 29th August. All I can say is wow! On my follow up appointment my vision was already better than 20/20! I was very nervous in waiting room, but i was put at ease with seeing people come out still being able to see!! (all-be-it with dark glasses on!). It all was over very quickly, it wasn't the most pleasant of procedures, certainly not what i would do for fun! But i felt no pain at all. My eyes were stinging for about an hour after the procedure and i took some ibroprofen. I haven't felt a thing since! I have quickly got used to using the eye drops, and the blink ones are brilliant for my eyes as they do get tired by the end of the day. I am amazed at the difference this has made to everyday things! I would recommend this to anyone, and although you'll be nervous, it is no where near as bad as having a tooth out and really is over so quickly. Go for it!!

I was very impressed with the Optical Express clinic in Southampton where I had the surgery as well as the clinic in Bournemouth where I have had all my pre- and post- operative appointments. I am very pleased with the result of the surgery, experiencing discomfort for no more than about 3 days following surgery.

I have lasik at OE in Bluewater yesterday morning and I can't believe I'm sitting in front of my computer typing this without glasses today. The staff at Bluewater were great. They talked me through everything. I can't believe how pain free the whole thing was. I have better sight in my right eye than my left but that I'm sure will improve with time as it is very bloodshot at present. It was such a great feeling to wake up and see the bedside clock!

I had my eyes lasered on the 1st August 08 at Silverburn shopping centre and I am now writing this on the Thursday after and all I can say is WOW !!!! it is absolutely fantastic. On the day of my treatment I was up at 5am, pacing the floor, hanging out the back door to get fresh air, i was seriously panicking - my appointment (luckily) was 8.30am so we had to head off early. I was taken really quickly which was probably because I was there early in the morning, just as I was about to go under the intralase machine, it stopped working, it was nothing to worry about and they soon had it working and took me in again, after all the panicking that I did I couldn't actually believe how simple and quick the procedure was, after both my eyes were treated with the instalase, the surgeon asked what i thought, I said AMAZING - he replied that I was weird for thinking that lol !!! maybe I am but I couldn't not believe how painless and quick it was. My eyes were stingy and watery about 1/2 an hour after the procedure but I was very lucky and had no pain at all other than than that, I could see better after a sleep that afternoon and at night I was watching all my soaps with a glass of wine in my hand.....and with no glasses on !!..which was bliss. By the time I got up on Saturday I could see so much better, I kept looking out of the window and reading registration plates (how sad) I had a follow up appointment in East Kilbride OE at 10am that morning, when I had my eye test it turned out that my vision was ALREADY better than 20/20 which was FANTASTIC!!! so I was able to drive after that. I have had dry eyes this week but I know that will take a couple of weeks to die down but I have plenty of drops to put in my eyes anyway and they all help. I cannot believe that I left having this done for so long, and wish I hadn't got myself into such a state about having the treatment done because it REALLY was quick and painless. The staff who dealt with me at Optical Express were all amazing and very helpful. OK maybe not everyone will be as lucky as I have been with regards to no pain and great sight so quickly but I am just telling my experience which has been fantastic. I am out this weekend with the girls and looking forward to all the other nights out not having to worry about contacts making my eyes dry, and my twin boys now can't haul my glasses off my face and throw them about (which they were masters at). Oh yeah and my prescription was -4.75 in both eyes, with astigmatism in my right eye and I paid £2100 for Intralasik.

5/5, what more can you say. I had the procedure done on Sat 2nd August. So that's just a few days ago. The procedure itself was completely pain free, ok so there was a little discomfort when clamping the eyes open and applying the device for cutting the flap. But that wasn't anything to worry about. Hazey for a few hours after the surgery and a little blurry. But compared to pre-op without glasses it was certainly a huge improvement. By the time I woke up on Sunday morning it was a whole new world. It's somewhat amazing to be able to wake up in a morning and see the clock, without having to search all over to find my specs! Currently though, not really enjoying being at work as the air con is really drying my eyes up quite quickly. Fortunately i'm loaded up with drops so they're in use on the hour every hour to give my eyes a bit of moisture back. In summary, this is money well spent and makes a huge difference to my life in general. There are many little things you people who don't wear glasses/contacts take for granted. I can now sit here and think of many things that made my life with specs irritating at times!!!! Anyone thinking of having this done, all I can say is "GO FOR IT!"

I had lasek eye surgery on both eyes in march 08 and it was honestly the best thing ive ever done. Ther surgery was painfree and very quick (about 5minutes) which I was surprised at. I had the surgery on the Monday morning and by the friday I was back driving with superb 20/20 vision. I would deffiniely reccomend the procedure to anyone who is thinking about it. I was very scared at first but I must say I am so happy know that I had it done and dont know what I was worried for. If anyone wants to ask me any questions feel free my email is leanne2389@hotmail.co.uk and I will give you honest answers because I know how much I wanted to speak to someone whos had it done before I went.
