Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.
With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Laser Eye Surgery
Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).
In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.
Lens Replacement
Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.
An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:
- Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
- Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
- YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.
Cataract Surgery
Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.
Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.
Aftercare
Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.
Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.
Safety Record
All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.
99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.
Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.
4. The Verdict

I had my eyes done at Barlow House, Minshull St, Picadilly, Manchester, Lancashire M1 3DZ. I opted for the LASIK treatment, and I cannot express how extremely pleased I am with the results I have received. I had a pain free experience; and within 6 hours I could sit and watch TV. The following day I was back to normal. The most difficult part is remembering not to try to take my contacts out at night!! Equally as important as the final results, has been the treatment and professionalism displayed by staff. I have been to both the Barlow House location and 74, Cross St location. At both locations I could not have been made to feel any more comfortable. I would recommend this procedure without reservation.

I am very leased with my treatment, it takes a month or so for eyes to fully settle, but well worth it

I had lasik treatment one month ago and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at the clinic and the procedure. I knew immediately following the procedure that I could see, I walked out of the surgery room and was able to see signs across the road it is AMAZING. I was extremely nervous but would reassure anyone and recommend it to anyone. The procedure was so quick, totally pain free and I had instant results. My husband who is very short sighted and very squeemish is now going to have his done too. All the staff from booking the appointment through to surgery through to aftercare have been superb.

I had lasik surgery at Optical Express in Glasgow 2 weeks ago and cannot say how pleased I am with the end result. The staff from the first consultation right through the whole procedure and after care have been absolutely first class. They give straight forward advice in a very clear and informative way. I would not hesitate to recommend Optical Express to anyone who is interested in finding out about laser eye surgery. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR GIVING ME BETTER SIGHT THAN I CAN EVER REMEMBER HAVING!!

Before i go into any detail, i just want to say how fantastic the team are at manchester and that i`m so impressed with the results from surgery. after looking around at different companies offering laser surgery i decided to go with optical express. my decision was based on the homely and friendly feeling i got from the staff and the way the information was given to me in a "we want to help you way" instead of a "i want to make as much money from you as possible way"...the consultation was very concise and informative and the optician answered all my questions honestly. I thought about it for few days then called up and booked my surgery.there was no pressure to commit at the consultation. on the day of the surgery 21/11/05..i drove to the manchester clinic feeling very nervous and apprehensive. The staff there were very friendly and helpful....My surgeon Mr Waseem Aziz had a pre-op chat with me to answer any remaining questions, then it was into the laser room. There were 2 nurses in the room who were so lovely and made sure i was ok. they explained the procedure to me and told me what they were doing as they were doing it. i felt totally safe in their hands!..the procedure did not hurt at all, the distortion in my vison while the procedure was taking place was actually quite relaxing and helped to relax my mind. The nurse counted down the time left until each eye was done. this helped me so much! i had the lasek procedure and had 47 seconds in one eye and 43 in the other...i was only in the laser room for about 10mins. immediatly after the op i could see the clock on the wall and make out signs although my vison was very blurry still. now for the bit of bad news, about 20mins after the op my eyes started to sting (like having soap in them) this lasted for about 2 hours, but this was not a painfull feeling, just mild discomfort. Post-op Day 1....vision better, slight dryness, could feel the contact lenses...used blink drops a lot..no pain at all, slight discomfort. post-op day 2....vision better again, noticing the improvement all the time, still dryness and discomfort but less and less each day. post op day 4....had my contact lenses taken out in the chester branch (lovely staff again) eyes so much better now, no dryness or discomfort since then and now on day 8. vision better for both distance and reading. the only problem i have encountered is my night vison, the star bursts and halos make driving more difficult but it is bearable, this is also fading each day now, oh and the shields you have to wear on you eyes for the first week while you sleep are annoying. overall...staff are lovely, helpful and fantastic, im over the moon with the results, would recommend it to anyone...no pain just mild discomfort...the after care support is wonderful...24hr helpline, all information and drops needed...Thank you Optical Express..FIRST CLASS!

Decided at surgery a few months ago. Looked at Ultralase and Optical Express. Firstly Ultralase seemed like a production line and wanted £6,000 for both me and my wife. Optical Express were £2,500. While a massive difference price cannot be the only factor. I actually went with Optical Express as I felt less pressure and more confident in their procedures. Important point. Ultralase are not opticians. They only make money by selling laser surgery and it felt like that. Optical Express are opticians they sell glasses, contact lens and laser eye surgery. We both had treatment in London on Saturday. I had 'ik' my wife 'ek'. I am fine and it is strange after 27 years of wearing glasses not wearing them. Was back driving the day after. Still slightly sore and dryish but it will get better and I did have 20/20 vision within 24 hours. Not bad. My wife is still in pain as she has those contact lens in you get with 'ek'. They come out tomorrow and she cannot wait. The life changing side I cannot comment on as the things for me that would make it life changing, swimming sport etc... I cannot do for a month. However would I recommend it to anyone else? Most definitely. Technology has moved on so why not take advantage of it and with Optical Express I saved £3,500 over Ultralase!

I tell you what, you've probably read loads of feedback saying "should have done it sooner"....... well just do it !! I had my eyes done last Friday at Optical Express Birmingham... Called in by the nurse at 10:50, out at 11:10, my Wife drove me home at 11:30, wonderfull. By 16:00 I could see the clock on the video !!!!! Went back Saturday for a check up with Sam, better than 20:20 in both eyes, even with a big astigmatism in my left eye which was just over the recommended limit (thank you Dr Jani!) Sammi, (the optician), you were extemely helpful and very informative - thank you. I felt no pain whatsoever, no gritty eyes, nothing - maybe I was lucky, I don't know??. Rachel and Fran were hust great, they really looked after me and made me feel relaxed, after all, it's a big thing at the end of the day but I reckon the dentis is a far worse experience!. You have nothing to worry about. So, there you have it, DO IT NOW !!!!! Bye Bye speccs....... after 30 years !!!!!!!!

Fantastic! I had LASIK treatment and the operation was over in 20 minutes and by the next dat I could see perfectly. 1 week later and the dryness has stopped completely and I'm back to life as usual. I have to remind myself that I'm not wearing contact lenses! Highly recommended! And the customer service is excellent. Everyone has been very helpful and so nice. Thanks all. This has changed my life.

Had Lasik treatment 5th November 2005 at the Bristol clinic. Stephan Klopper and the nurses were fantastic. The proceedure took just a few minutes and was totally painless and dispite my misgivings was not at all scary. By next day had 20/20 vision and was able to drive without glasses for the first time ever! I am thrilled with the results of my treatment and the aftercare is superb. I do not have dry eyes or any other after effects. Wow!!
