1. Optical Express Laser Eye Surgery Review

I’m very happy with my laser treatment. There’s nothing to worry about – there’s no pain, and I would recommend it to anybody. The aftercare at Optical Express is also very good. I just wish i had done it years ago. – Philip Lavelle

Optical Express uses world leading technology, and their laser platform – the VISX S4IR – delivers safe, accurate and precise results. Fun fact: Optical Express is the only vision correction provider to invest in the iFS150 intraLASE in each of its clinics – the same technology that led to NASA backing laser eye surgery for astronauts in 2007.

Over 99% of Optical Express patients achieved 20/20 vision or better following treatment, according to a study carried out in June 2017.

With over 25 years’ experience in eye care, Optical Express boasts excellent surgical outcomes, and has invested £400 million in technology to offer advanced methods for vision correction.

Optical Express has 128 clinics in the UK alone – far more than any other eye surgery provider. Its locations include London, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with many more situated in all corners of the country.

2. Optical Express Laser Eye Surgery Cost

optical express laser eye surgery prices

True, it was an expensive operation, but I spent £500 a year on contact lenses and optician appointments – I see it as an investment! – Dave Reyner

Laser eye surgery at Optical Express costs from just £595, or from £1,995 for lens replacement surgery. Of course, these prices depend on the treatment you choose, as well as your prescription, so you’ll want to pop in for a free consultation to get a tailored quote.

Optical Express is one of the cheapest laser eye surgery clinics in the UK. Its prices are well below average, compared to over 70 leading eye clinics and hospitals nationwide.

There are also a range of pay monthly finance options, so you can benefit from eye surgery for less than £50 a month – and it’s 0% finance for 10 month contracts.

Are there any hidden costs? No, the consultation is free, and you even get free eye tests worth £800. The only downside is not having fixed prices like at Optegra and Optimax, but at least the costs are lower at the end of the day.

Laser Eye Surgery

Laser eye surgery is a simple procedure that can correct your vision in a matter of minutes. Optical Express offers the most popular types: LASIK and LASEK (if you are not suitable for the surgical LASIK).

In both treatments, a cool beam advanced laser reshapes the cornea (the surface of your eye). Optical Express uses a technology called iDesign, which is based on Wavefront technology and takes thousands of eye measurements to produce the best results.

Lens Replacement

Optical Express has 20 years’ experience in lens replacement surgery. This surgery is a popular treatment for people with long distance vision, short distance vision, and even cataracts.

An eye consultant can help you decide which surgery best suits your needs:

  • Refractive lens exchange (RLE) – This surgery replaces the natural lens with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) implant.
  • Phakic IOL – This type of IOL is an alternative to laser eye surgery for patients with strong prescriptions.
  • YAG laser treatment – YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat refractive former lens exchange patients whose vision starts to fade over the years.

Cataract Surgery

Optical Express performs the highest number of cataract surgeries – after the NHS, according to its website.

Cataracts are small, blurry patches on your eyes, giving you cloudy vision. Cataract surgery involves removing your damaged lens, and replacing it with a premium synthetic one for sharper near and distance vision.

Aftercare

Optical Express custom-fits its aftercare plan to every patient. This plan includes any medication that will aid the healing process, optometrist-led follow-up appointments, and an out-of-hours medical helpline.

Patients receive 12 months’ continued care as standard, and Optical Express recommends annual examinations to maintain your eye health.

Safety Record

All surgical procedures carry a degree of risk. However, laser eye surgery has an impressive success rate, and is the most popular elective surgery in the world.

99.2% of patients achieved at least 20|20 vision following surgery at Optical Express, based on a study of 190,231 Optical Express patients with the most common prescriptions. That’s why this eye clinic promises 20|20 vision or your money back.

Just be aware that the risks increase the more complicated the surgery. Optical Express will provide a screening service to check whether you are suitable for surgical treatment.

I went to a consultation last Thursday, got a time for the surgery (by Jonathan Carr) in Kingston the next morning and now it has been almost a week with my new eyes.(was -1.25) The whole experience was more fun than going to a dentist. I am really glad I did it. Afterwards I had no pain whatsoever and therefore have not needed any painkillers. Just have to take the 4-6 times of eye drops daily for a week and that should do it. No itching, no headache, nothing. My sight improved already the next day to the level I had with glasses and it should be still getting a bit better. Just order the info pack from them and after some time you will start receiving offers every now an then. I used a 250£ voucher for mine. Intralase would probably give you two weeks faster healing time, but in my opinion is not worth the extra 600£. You might get also the wavefront done a bit cheaper elsewhere, but I can really recommend these guys.

From the consultatin in Cardiff to the treatment in their Bristol Clinic, Optical Express gave me a first class service. My surgeon, Mr Dimitris Kazakos and his team were skilled professionals and nothing was too much trouble. I was put at ease and the whole experience was wonderful resulting in my being able to see clearly for the first time in years. I would recommend Optical Express to anyone considering this surgery.

I have worn glasses since I was 15 years of age, I am now 59! Making the decision to have laser surgery was very scary, what if something went wrong and my eye-site became worse or even.....I lost it all together! This is the sort of thing that goes through your mind while you are in the waiting area before your surgery. Let me tell you, the surgeon and all the nurses were brilliant, they talked to me throughout the surgery and it was all over in minutes. No pain, just a little feeling of pressure, and it was all over and I was sat in a waiting area again. I returned the next day for a check up and was told that my vision was 20/20. I wish I had been able to have this surgery years ago, I feel 100% happier now I don't have to look at the world through my glasses. Thank you, Optical Express. If you are thinking of laser surgery all I can say is go for it. It's worth every penny, and not half as scary as you may think.

RECOMMEND ME AS A FRIEND FOR £50 OFF. my treatment was on 10/7/09 at the Metro Centre centre at Gateshead. from the consultation to the after-care the staff were always very helpful and made you feel at ease answered any and all questions. well worth doing don't be scared just do it. you can go out in the rain and not have to wipe your glasses little things like that makes it all worth doing all so normal sunglasses. after the treatment my eyes were sore for about a day which was normal after that my vision and eyes just got better week after week wish I had done it a long time ago

I had my surgery at the Newcastle branch just over three months ago. It was carried out by Dr. Esselaar who was absolutely fantastic. Everything about the service was top notch. Bill Coultas who carried out my initial consultation was very clear and professional in explaining the process, with no hard sell tactics, and made me aware of all of available options. I could have opted for a cheaper treatment, as I was suitable, but when it comes down to it you get one pair of eyes, and I felt the extra money for the best treatment was the right choice for me. I did originally book to have this treatment in April of this year but nerves got the better of me, but after many more weeks of consideration I decided to take the Nike approach and just do it. The surgery itself is a strange alien experience but not painful. As mentioned before Dr. Esselaar is great, and put me at ease and talked me through the whole thing. I had no pain or discomfort at all after surgery, apart from being sensitive to bright light which passed after a few hours sleep. Three months on my vision is entirely stable and I now have better than 20/20 vision. It has made a huge difference to my life and would recommend this treatment to everyone. Forget about the nerves and go for it. One piece of advice would be to go to your consultation and then hold off booking your surgery. The offers you get through both by e-mail and post seem to get better the longer you wait. I received a voucher by post for £300 off, which is better in my pocket than theirs.

The total experience was fantastic. Coming through the doors feeling apprehensive to leaving feeling great. Went home as recommended and slept for approximately 4 hours and was able to watch TV that night with better than 20/20 Vision. Would recommend this to everyone Regards

Having laser treatments was one of the best decisions in mine life. I had it done a week ago (08.09.09).Still can't get over the fact that I can see. My prescription was -4 with astigmatism in both eyes. I had mine done at Nottingham, Lister Gate by Dr. Dimitri Kazakos. I was really pleased with the surgeon (he seems to be a little grumpy on the beginning but he is very nice and professional) even when I didn’t follow his orders (like don’t move my eye) but he still did his job outstanding. Staff very professional and extremely friendly. Procedure after and before, and after care was described in details. Op is PAIN FREE.I am only 22yaers and I feel like just starting completely new life. I would recommend it to anybody.

What a fabulous experience from having the surgery right up to today, my six month check up!!! The Surgeon and staff at the Inverness branch of Optical Express are masters of customer service. I have felt extremely safe and well looked after during the past six months of treatment and after care. I can't praise the Inverness branch enough and am so thankful to each and every one of the staff. It is very unusual for residents of the far North of Scotland to have access to treatments of this kind locally. We would normally require to travel South. Thank you so much Optical Express Inverness.

Six Month Update!!! Almost six months in and I cannot believe how great my sight is. Any initial worries were completely unfounded and my sight is second to none. I cannot rate the treatment or the Bristol clinic highly enough. The surgery was painless and my surgeon Mr. Tom Matterman at Bristol very professional and skilled. You only get one set of eyes. I was very nervous of what was about to happen. I had no need to worry and now have better than 20/20 vision! The difference in just being able to wear sunglasses and walk in the rain without steaming up is fantastic! If anyone would like further information please do not hesitate to contact me by using the link from this posting. I would be pleased to talk you through my experience or answer any questions that you may be having concerns about. Kind regards Paul

I used the clinic in Meadowhall (Sheffield) for my treatment. I found this clinic to be well run and the staff extremely friendly. The process from start to finish was explained in great detail and they were more than happy to answer all of my questions. This made me feel very confident in their ability and that relax me throughout the treatment. Afterwards the pain was bearable for the drive home but once i had closed my eyes and gone to sleep i woke to near perfect vision a mere 3 hrs after the surgery. I will be recommending this clinic to anyone who asks. Thanks Optical Express.
