After careful research decided the time had come to investigate laser eye surgery. Met Julian Stevens for the initial consultation who was plain talking and inspired confidence. Had Intralasik surgery which went well. The results are truly life changing and words cant describe just how much better you feel. With the surgery comes an inheritant responsibility to ensure you put your eye drops in on time which will assists the healing. So far so good. Honestly, dont deliberate too much, go for it.

Went for a consultation with Julian Stevens in late 2012. Mr Stevens was plain talking and inspired confidence. Had Intralasik surgery in December 2012 and so far so good. Words cant decribe how life changing it is. Not needing to worry about glasses or contacts. What a relief. My vision is 20/20 and just from a morale point of view its great. I should say that just like any surgery there comes with it implicit responsibility namely that you need to make sure you put in the eye drops on time which is vital to assist the healing. I am happy with the results so far. My advice is not to deliberate too long, make up your mind and go for it!

I thoroughly recommend ICL with Mr Allan. I now have better than 20/20 vision and ICL was incredible - no pain and vision recovered within a few days. Vision is now amazing, I have never seen better, even with glasses. I had consultations with 3 surgeons at Moorfields and I choose Mr Allan because of his professional manner, his experience in performing this type surgery and his very thorough answers to my questions prior to deciding to go ahead (everyone was done in writing, including detailed explanation of who pays if the result is not as expected). Post op care was excellent. The second eye was a bit more uncomfortable than the first so I contacted the hospital one evening and Mr Allen called back within 10 minutes. My partner had laser surgery with another very experienced surgeon at Moorfields and 1 month post surgery his sight started deteriorating and he had a suspected infection. In the months that followed, I felt the post-op care was poor, mainly because the surgeon/hospital were not easily contactable. I cannot stress how distressing it is if a problem occurs and you are not able to contact the surgeon or get any advice from the hospital other than 'go to A&E'. Different surgeons have different after care (even though they work for same hospital) and Mr Allans aftercare was very good. If you go ahead with eye surgery, I suggest you ask about aftercare procedures. The chances of something going wrong are very rare, but knowing you are in the best possible hands if it happens is invaluable, which for me is why I choose Moorfields over a high street surgeon. Just one small thing to note, Moorfields is a very busy hospital and it can be a little bit disorganised at times because the admin/nursing staff are so busy. This is based on my overall impression of mine and my partners surgeries. However, my overall experience with Mr Allan was excellent and I can thoroughly recommend.

Great treatment - hospital and surgeon were very clear and helpful and the pre-screening was very reassuring. There was more to the surgery from a surgeon's perspective than I initially expected (thinking everything was done with a machine) so I was happy I had gone with a clinic and surgeon of Mr. Maurino's standing. After-care excellent. Highly recommended.

This is the second operation that Mr Allan has performed on my left eye. He is a top surgeon that provides great skill and care to his patients. I have complete trust in his ability, and I have referred several people in the past, and everyone has been very impressed by the whole process and skill of Mr Allen and his colleagues.

After much thought and research into laser eye surgery I finally decided to book a consultation at the Moorfields Private clinic with Dr Gartry’s office.

Whilst conducting my research I had become familiar with Dr Gartry as he had come up many times on google searches in relation to laser eye surgery and I was certain that I wanted to go for a consultation at his clinic.

I was quite nervous as expected because the decision to have any type of surgery let alone eye surgery is a big deal and a decision which should be taken wisely.

I booked my appointment and had my consultation. I found the consultation process very straightforward and comfortable, you are asked about your medical history and complete a number of tests in relation to the thickness of your cornea. Once this is complete you get to meet Mr Gartry. On meeting Mr Gartry he informed me that I was not eligible for LASIK surgery which was the one I was hoping I would be eligible for! He informed me that I have a thin cornea and therefore LASEK would be the only option for me. He advised that healing time is longer (1 week) as medical contact lenses are placed in your eye to protect the eyes whilst the cells are rebuilding.

I had a think and decided that this was the best procedure and I decided to book the surgery for 13 December 2014. I was extremely nervous on the day of the surgery and had not had much sleep! On entering the hospital room where Dr Gartry performs the surgery I was greeted by a very friendly nurse. The nurse explained to my partner and I the symptoms and side effects I would experience for the next week and the strict regime of eyedrops that I must adhere to for the first week and the next 2/3 weeks! I was then taken in for the surgery.

The surgery itself lasted about 15 mins. I was not in the operating room for more than about 20 mins in total! Throughout the whole procedure Dr Gatry remained calm and informed me of what he was doing so I was also aware. I was told to focus on a red dot whilst the procedure was performed on each eye. I did not feel a thing as my eyes had been prepared with an anaesthetic.

Post Surgery:

Once the anaesthetic had worn off I could feel my eyes becoming very watery and heavy-but I was prepared for this. I had to keep putting in lubricating eye drops every 15 mins to help with the dryness. I was told if the pain was unbearable I could use the anaesthetic eyedrops however I managed to get through the first day without using these. I used the anesthetic eye drops twice-the 2nd and 3rd day at night before sleeping.

I had m 1 week check up where I had to visit Dr Gartrys clinic and was asked about my recovery. The optician checked my eyes and removed the medical contacts. She informed that my eyes were healing well-and at this point I could read and see everything very clearly-from a distance. I had LASEK to correct my short sightedness. My prescription in lenses was -3.50 in my right eye and -3.75 in my left eye. My left eye had more of an astigmatism in my left eye. I noticed that my left eye was healing slightly slower and the optician advised with LASEK this can take longer and to continue with the eye drops as instructed. Dr Gartry advised the same and on the whole I was very happy with my surgery at this stage as I was able to see clearly!

I have just recently had my 3 month checkup which revealed that my eyes were doing very well but as I had noticed my left eye was still not as sharp as my right eye. The optician advised that this was because I still had a very minor astigmatism in my left eye 0/5. This is very minor and would not need to be corrected. On the whole it does not bother me I only notice the slight difference between the two eyes when I cover my right eye and need to see only with my left eye. However when I use both eyes together (which is almost all the time!) I have no problem with my vision. I have not suffered from dry eyes but I continue to use the drops if I am tired or have not had a good nights sleep as I find this causes dry eyes for me but I had the same issue pre LASEK. I am happy with my procedure and how it has gone and would recommend anyone interested in Laser to visit Dr Gartrys clinic. Compared other clinics I can appreciate that some people may be put off by the price but you are paying for a private service and the after care is excellent. Dr Gartry himself is a very experienced consultant and has treated many people. I felt at ease knowing he was a specialist in this area and this made my decision easier. I would highly recommend the service and if anyone is thinking of going for LASIK but you are advised you are eligible for LASEK only then, please do not be put off by the recovery time or the procedure itself. LASEK itself is recommended for certain individuals who play contact sport for example and is considered the ‘better’ procedure. However I would encourage you to do your own research and read the paperwork and documents provided at the clinic which are very informative and detail all the risks involved very clearly.

I would have given ‘5’ as a overall rating if my left eye astigmatism had been corrected completely, but due to this slight astigmatism I have decided to go for 4/5, although the day to day implications for me are minor and I don’t notice the difference much, I wanted to make the review as honest and reliable!

I wish I had found this site before my laser surgery. I had my Lasik last summer to treat myopia & astigmatism. I chose Moorfields because of its reputation and because I felt that cost should take a backseat where my eyes were concerned. My surgeon was Miss Ficker. The procedure was quick and straightforward enough. However, the aftercare has been sadly wanting. It took some weeks for my sight to really start to improve. My vision was blurry. My ability to read print and see the textures of things was dramatically affected and I was completely unprepared for this. My vision in artificial light was poor. Information about what to expect during the weeks following surgery was poor. Although there was every opportunity to ask questions prior to surgery, this was not the case afterwards and when you are experiencing difficulty you really need to know what is normal etc. The junior doctor who I saw (very briefly and after having waited well over an hour - several staff had to 'track him down') at my follow-up appointment was unable to answer any of my questions - he just didn't seem to know whether I could expect any improvement in my sight and reflected that I may need to wear glasses for longsightedness. He exited the meeting with the words that he was only there 'as a favour' to Miss Ficker. I left the appointment feeling unsettled and anxious. Over the next few days I tried to contact the 'help number' - it later transpired that this was the wrong number. It was also very difficult getting through to the John Saunders suite. Eventually I did have a follow up a week later with a different surgeon as mine was away. I was advised that although my result was 'unusual' hopefully my eyes would 'settle'. Since that time attempts to arrange a 3 month follow-up as advised proved impossible. Both my husband & I tried. Calls weren't returned and promises to 'get back to me' were never kept. The whole admin side was shambolic! I did eventually receive a written apology for this. Although my eyes have now 'settled' my customer experience has been poor because of the after care aspect. Hence the customer service rating. I can only contrast it with my husband's experience with an alternative organisation earlier this year.

master s.ajaylogeshwar an 18 years old boy frum india tamilnadu state compliants of night blindness and defective visions in both eyes of 4 years duration on examination his best- corrected visualacuity was 6/24 in the right eye and 6/60 in the left eye. anterior segment examination showed post G3R keratoconus in both eyes.fundus examination revealed features of coe rod dystrophy in both eyes diagnosis was confirmed by electroretinogram.

I am doing a little research into laser corrective eye surgery, I called the number for a surgeon called Mr Allan at Moorfields. Well it is quite clear the NHS runs it, for example one part of the conversation went something like this "could you tell me a little about the sort of treatment for my eyes i.e. what type of Laser you use” answer “I can say that” “you cant say because you don’t know or you cant say” answer “I cant say that” “you cant say because you don’t know your are not allowed to say” answer “maybe one of the other assistants will tell you if you try” I have contacted a number of laser surgeries, Moorfields was the only one to refuse to give me information and interestingly the only one that charges for a consultation.
