Before surgery my vision was -8 and therefore I couldn’t read a book, or see facial expressions etc without using my glasses. I would definitely recommend Centre for Sight. I’d dwelt on surgery for 10 years since my initial ...Read more

1. Review of Centre for Sight Clinic

Centre for Sight is a long-standing and renowned eye surgery clinic, with three practices in London, Surrey and West Sussex. Its leading consultant eye surgeon, Mr Sheraz Daya, founded the clinic way back in 1996 with a clear mission: provide exemplary eye care to patients in facilities that are purpose-built with their needs in mind.

What makes Centre for Sight different? Centre for Sight is based on Mr Daya’s vision that better surroundings can provide a higher standard of care. Today patients get to enjoy a spa-like or luxury hotel experience, rather than the dread of most hospital surgeries.

Is there anything else I should know? As you’d expect then, this clinic also comes with the price tag that accompanies a five-star experience. Yes, the facilities are kitted out with high-end diagnostic tech and quality lenses, backed up by a team of highly trained staff. But you leave all the fancy atmosphere behind the moment you step outside the clinic, and it won’t be a priority for everyone.

3. Centre for Sight Prices

On average, 723 patients told Lasik Eyes they paid between £2,400 and £3,615 per eye for laser eye and lens replacement surgery at Centre for Sight since 2002. These costs are slightly above the average price range of £1,789 and £3,152 – high street clinics such as Optical Express and Ultralase were the cheapest places we found.

Here are the fixed costs of eye surgery at Centre for Sight:

  • Laser eye surgery cost: £2,300 per eye (from £77 per month)
  • IntraLASIK Supracor cost: £2,575 per eye (from £86 per month)
  • Implantable contact lens cost: £2,975 per eye (from £85 per month)
  • Implantable contact lens cost (toric lenses): £3,450 per eye (from £93 per month)
  • Cataract surgery cost (monofocal): £2,975 – £3,575 per eye (from £94 per month)
  • Cataract surgery cost (multifocal): £2,975 – £3,575 per eye (from £94 per month)

Your costs will include: a free consultation (for laser surgery), the full cost of the procedure, a 24-hour service line, and aftercare for one year after treatment. Laser eye surgery consultations are free, but lens replacement surgery assessments cost £295.

Centre for Sight also provides interest free pay monthly finance options over a generous 24 months – with some clinics, you’ll be paying 11% APR after the first year. As with most clinics, there’s a deposit of £500 to secure the surgery, but this cost comes off the total cost.

Immediate improvement in vision both near and distant. Need for spectacles eliminated.

I thought about surgery a few years back, but at that time it was one eye at a time, seemed to take weeks for the eye to settle down etc. My eyes were -2.75 each, unchanged last 12 years ( I am 43) and no astigmatism. I was put onto CfS by a friend I met on holiday who had been to see another clinic, and after bad experience at consultation, went to see Sheraz Daya. The consultation was fine, not intrusive, although I think contact lens wearers might have tougher cornea due to constant handling. I wore lenses, and had no pain. My only tip, is that if you do not ask Sheraz questions, he will not run through answers to your unasked questions. So print out a list and ask them – he will happily do so The consultation was mid-April, and I was assessed as fine, with marginally thin cornea, so was suggested to have tissue-saving intralasik at £1950 per eye (special offer). To their credit I was quoted £2150 and the paperwork came through with the lower figure. At no point did a heavy sell come into play I delayed the surgery as I was off on a cycling holiday and did not want problems with eyes! So yesterday I turned up, slightly nervous but committed to proceed. Total of 4 hrs on site, most of which was hanging around. The essence was, a double check of the eye scan (which measures the shape and contour of your eye so as to know how much to shave off. Then blood pressure etc, and about 3 sets of eye drops, plus a couple of Valium. I was then led off into the operating room. I was a bit dopey but it looks like a scanner machine, you lie down, the machine is positioned over one eye. He then tells you what he is doing but I was so relaxed I didn’t really listen!. First step, cut flap, second step shave off surface. Max about 5 mins for the two eyes. Straight away was sat up, slipped on the groovy Stevie Wonder ski goggles, then walked around to the darkened room, where 3 or 4 other patients were sitting. I opened my eyes a few seconds as we walked round (only 5m) and could tell that as a minimum I was not blind (!) and that I could see better than with no specs, if rather bleary. My eyes hurt a bit, rather like having shampoo in them, and I certainly was very happy to keep them closed I was somewhat irritated by the relatives in the corridor who I could hear chatting in an insensitive manner about the live video footage they could see on the monitor in the corridor. After about 25 mins or so of waiting in the dark I was taken into an adjacent room for a quick check-up from Sheraz who opened my eyes presumably to check for physical damage etc. There was then a quick (60sec) eye test and he confirmed that as a minimum I had driving standard vision in both and he was very happy with the outcome. My family arrived to get me about 20 mins later and I was led off to the car. I as starving hungry so they stopped for petrol, a snack and a drink, plus some Nurofen. I had been told to take painkillers when I got home, but as we live 90 miles away decided to get then in early. For some reason my nose was running like hell, so I used a lot of tissues. I then slept the whole journey home, wearing the groovy Stevie Wonder ski goggles, and came in to go to bed. Good excuse to sound pathetic and get my daughter to make cups of tea and send her down to the shop for a Dipped Flake! Yum. I half listened to the TV for an hour or so, then slept from 6.30 to 10pm. Slept again from 11.30 to 6.30 and 7.30 to 9.00am. Eyes were fine, I could see perfectly! The only issue was a very slight feeling of bleariness, but I could easily read car number plates 50m away, well in excess of the driving test standard. No pain, no discomfort, no dryness. Looking in the mirror, the white part of the eye had a crescent shaped arc of redness. I called the support line at 11am and had a call back from the nurse in 2 mins, to reassure me that this was caused by the suction onto the eyeball and would go in a few days. I drove with no problems whatsoever although would not have wanted to drive a very long distance today. Late pm I came to bed for a lie down and nodded off for 20 mins. Now 7.45pm on Sunday, no pain, no dryness and great vision. Having had glasses for 29 years and lenses about 25 years (disposable last few years) it is great to have unaided vision. The most noticeable bit is seeing the clock clearly at night! It is frustrating to have no exercise for 2 weeks as I cycle every day, and will really miss it, but I can manage! The thing I am looking forward to most is evenings out without lenses needing to be replaced by glasses, and not having to have glasses on standby on day trips and particularly cycling trips! Centre for Sight are not cheap, and in fact one of the priciest. I can’t say what the others are like but they have been very professional, friendly and caring. One major benefit is meeting the surgeon you will get on the day, which with some larger outfits is not the case. I chose them on my friend’s recommendation. And I am delighted!

5 month investigation, 3 consultations it was like a case of the X files but I opted for Centre for Sight. Why? 1. I wanted a surgeon who I could meet to do the operation. 2. I wanted the procedure performed by an experienced eye surgeon just in case of any complications. 3. I was not overly keen on the knife way of creating the flap and so wanted the laser method that was ONLY performed here. It was by the far the most expensive but I did not care. I have one pair of eyes so wanted to keep them in good working order. The thought of the procedure worried me for months but the actual op took 10 mins was painless, which i am sure was helped by the valium provided. Within 24 hours I could see clearly and my 1st eye test shows 20/20 vision. I have a slight redness to the eye and am due back again for a further check up in 2 days. Again I am reassured by the fact that I will be seeing an eye specialist if there are any issues/complications. So glad I did it and no more fumbling for glasses or lenses. My prescription was -5.50 so needed glasses/lenses all the time. Cheers Patrick

All staff were very helpful during pre-op examinations and on the day of treatment they were excellent and helped to dispel any fears and worries. The op was on 6/6/2005. Mr. Daya himself is at the top of his field and I have every respect and admiration for his skill and expertise. He is a very professional and extremely caring surgeon. It is wonderful not to wear glasses anymore!

Before the operation (Zyoptix to be precise) i had worn contacts for 18 years, and my prescription was -4.5 and -3.75 with astigmatism. I've just had my one month check-up and apparently my vision is now better than 20/20. The decision to choose Centre For Sight and Mr Daya was simple for me - at the time of writing, CFS is the only Surgery in the UK offering IntraLase, and Mr Daya is probably one of the best (if not the best) surgeon. However, is was quite expensive. The staff are excellent, and very friendly. I can't thank them enough. My only complaint is that every morning I can immediately see my alarm clock clearly, and jump out of bed thinking its 9:58 and I'm late for work, when in reality I'm listening to Capital Radio 95.8 FM. One day I'll learn!

Exceptional team delivered an exceptional result and exceeded my expectations! My Brother who is an ophthalmologist made me wait five years until he came across Sheraz and only then agreed to entrust my eyesight to someone he considers to be amongst the very best in the world. The IntraLASIK procedure was painless with no after effects and improved my vision from 20/20 to 20/15 and I do not even need reading glasses. A great outcome. I have already recommended Sheraz to family and friends and am very pleased that my brother waited until he found the best surgeon and the best treatment possible. A sincere thanks to the whole team who have looked after me.

Thanks to the whole team. You scored 20/20 too. Keep it up.

I have been waiting twenty years to be contact lens and glasses free - it is fabulous.I spent a long time finding the correct clinic, previous consultations elsewhere had left me nervous about both surgeon and procedure. At Last I found someone professional and reassuring about the procedure.Thank you very much indeed.

I was looking for the best treatment possible to correct my short sightedness. Once I started investigating the choice was obvious, the Intralase process dispenses with the "blade cut" of the eye using a laser cut instead. This is only offered by the "Centre for sight". Couple this with the surgery being carried out by Dr Sheraz Daya (Medical Director of the Corneo Plastic Unit) at a hospital that trains other surgeons. For me there was no other choice. You meet Dr Daya at the initial consultation and can ask any questions you have. He instilled confidence and calm for me. On the day of the operation there is a full team of doctors and nurses taking care of you and Dr. Daya carrying out the operation. Its now 4 weeks after my surgery, my vision is excellent and I would recommend this operation to anyone. The surgery isn't cheap but your eyesight is priceless!

10 Jul 2005

One year later: 20/20 vision, no complications, excellent treatment, very happy that I went there and happy to recommend them.

I'm not suitable for lasik unfortunately (severe longsight)and am therefore considering Artisan lens implants. I have had a consultation at the CFS and was very impressed with the whole set up, so if I go ahead, it will be there, but I would very much like to make contact with anyone who has had the surgery.
